Thursday June 7th 2001 - DKP Cruise Night, Dairy Queen Fullerton

Got to Irvine ok. The Crowne Plaza (hotel) was hard to find as the main road twists around alot down this neighbourhoud. There were already some aircooled VWs in the parkinglot. A hotrod style Karmann Ghia was the best one there. The owners was checking his wheels as the adaptors had started to come loose.

Around dinner time we cruised up North towards Fullerton. The cal-look club Der Kleiner Panzers had their monthly cruisenight at on the parkinglot of fastfood joint Dairy Queen.
By the time we got there (18:15) the parkinglot was already full up with VWs. Most cars were verry nicely done. The main part of the cars were bugs, but you could also see some nice busses and other aircooleds on display. A fake cal-look hebmuller and the hotrod KG got lots of looks from the people present.

When it got dark the first people started to leave. Most of them did burnouts as they turned onto the street. Dyno Don was talking/yelling they out and everybody else was watching the display of horsepower. All the european guys expected the police to show up within seconds, but we never swa them. By them time somebody got his full on drag car out on the parkinglot of the supermarket accross the road, we figured the shopowner would call the cops, but even that didn't happen!

Some guys were checking out a rare Binz crewcab. It turned out to be "No Quarter" and a few of his friends from Nebraska. (I knew him from back in the days i used to be on the vintagvw mailinglist).

All in all a good night of VW fun. We left around 23:00.
